About

Ladybird

Gaps in the process
The Other in the constant return of the same thing
Stuttering in non-verbal texts
The black hole in eternity

--Heine Müller

LadyBird Theatre Group is an independent Performance Collective in Beijing. It was in the Beijing Heiqiao Arts Area. Its core members come from different artistic fields including theatre, literature, experimental music, modern dance, contemporary art, video and design. The practice of LadyBird intents to break different boundaries which are dominating in the mainstream theatres, for instance boundary between professional and nonprofessional, stage and audience, life and art. Since 2009, the group conducts different types of texts including play scripts, novels, contemporary poetry, interviews and news reports, combine each participant's body and personal experience for rehearsals. Integrating the contemporary art, the group explores the ways of expressing the body, text and space to create boundary-crossing works and to raise questions about our present realities. Our theatre could be a carpet, a platform, a courtyard, a chapel, a square, an empty space. If performers and audience are there, the theater is there! It is the moment of our encounter. It is our celebration!
